About an Olympiad Problem

Recently I remembered an interesting problem, which came to me at the regional Olympiad in Mathematics, when I was in the 10th grade, namely: to prove that on the coordinate plane it is possible to place a flat figure of area less than 1, so that it will not contain any point with integer coordinates.
I came across a good book on olympiad problems, which contains a more general statement (problem 8, p. 376)
